Language Arts
Math
Lately we have just been practicing place value, reading decimals, comparing decimals (which one is bigger), and rounding decimals.
Before Christmas Break we will move into performing operations with decimals including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
The entire 3rd quarter, starting Jan. 17 should be focused on Fractions, dun, dun, dun!!!!
Social Studies
This is a culminating project to apply everything we learned in our Geography chapter the past couple weeks. Each student is designing his/her own planet including continents, oceans, mountain ranges, river, latitude & longitude lines, a compass rose, a map key, etc.
The most important part is the paragraph that goes along with the poster. The paragraph is an opportunity for the student to explain where he/she would live on his/her planet and WHY he/she would live there.
The poster and paragraph are due on Wednesday, December 4.
We are having work days tomorrow and Tuesday, December 3, but I have encouraged the students to take it home tomorrow and work on it over Thanksgiving Break.
This is a big grade!
The next direction we are heading in S.S. is Native American groups of North America. We will be working on a small research report with this topic between Thanksgiving and Christmas Break.

Message from the pigs
"Ms. Risner needs help! She can't keep up with our food and bedding all by her lonesome. If you could donate some I'm sure she would give your student a sticker for his/her sticker chart. And we would love you forever!"

Healthy Afternoon Snack
I am going to start allowing the option of bringing a healthy afternoon snack. We have a very long afternoon and many of the students start to fade out by 2 oclock if ya know what I mean.
Examples: fruit, fruit snacks, goldfish crackers, teddy grams, Graham crackers, dry cereal, veggies, pretzels, granola bars, string cheese, yogurt, etc.
No longer allowed in my classroom
Just so everyone is aware, I have told the students they are no longer to bring Pokemon cards or electronics into my room. We have had some problems with theft and/or accusations of theft so I would appreciate if those items were left at home from now on.
The rest of the week
Thursday: The students have started DARE on Thursdays during computer time. Officer McMahill is great with this age group and hilarious...he stayed the whole week at Glen Helen with us. They have a DARE booklet and will sometimes have assignments to complete at home. Tomorrow pgs 5&31 are due.
Also Fantastic After School Student Mania is tomorrow!!
Friday:The reading log (it's red) and their South region flip packet are both due Friday.
Quizlet
Quizlet is a tool to help students practice their vocabulary and spelling words. There is a website and an app for your phones. I'm going to try to sign the kids up for it tomorrow...check it out if ya like!
