Upcoming events

OAAs are fast approaching!
The reading assessment is Tuesday 4/29= 10 school days away!!
The math assessment is Thursday 5/1= 13 school days away!!
The science assessment is Tuesday 5/6= 16 school days away!!

In math we have dedicated 20-30 min each day for OAA review/practice since the beginning of March, so we will continue that.

5th grade topics still to teach before the assessment: first=line plots, then coordinate grids, then 2d and 3d shapes=plane figures, triangles, and quadrilaterals.

Good things to review at home for math: finding area, perimeter, volume; operations with decimals, operations with fractions; reading tables & graphs; breaking down word problems.

In L.A. We will start reviewing and taking practice tests next week.

Things to review at home: antonyms vs synonyms, point of view, using context clues to figure out the meaning of a word, characteristics of genres, identifying main idea and supporting it with details, identifying and supporting the theme of a text, identifying and creating similes and metaphors.

In science we are finishing up forces/motion this week, then going onto different types of energy, the transfer of energy, and potential vs kinetic energy.
Then we will briefly discuss heat and electricity. Then we'll start reviewing 3rd and 4th grade concepts.

Non fiction text structures

This is what we are working on in language arts right now.  How is a text organized and why did the author organize it that way?
