More Book Talks

Our class is so excited to share with you some of the books they've finished!

Book Talks

The students have been working hard & practicing their book recommendations/talks.  Things the talks should include are: Title & author, summary, why he/she liked the book, why others may enjoy the book, maybe a quote from the book, and maybe the genre.

What's Going on In 5th Grade

Monday, January 25 @ 9:15=5th Grade Class Picture!!  Get your order form in!

Tuesday, January 26, I am out all day.  I will be visiting another school in Newark, Ohio with several other GES teachers.  The sub for the day is a retired 5th grade teacher from GES, so the students won't miss much :)

Friday, January 29=Waiver Day for teacher, so no school for students.

This week the students are working on:

Writing:Finishing up their career research essays (this is actually a Social Studies standard) as well as getting into opinion writing in which they will have to research both sides of an issue and write an argumentative essay supporting one or the other.

Reading: Comparing and contrasting multiple accounts of the same event or topic from different view points. This is basically reading 2 different accounts of the same real event or topic then comparing & contrasting the way they were presented.

Math: Switching gears to Geometry & Measurement.  We are beginning line plots with fractions and graphing using coordinate grids.

Science: Learning about light & sound energies.

Social Studies: Researching the knowledge, skills, & experience required to be successful at a career as well as getting into Economics.

** If you have any questions about the Progress Reports please email/call/text me through Remind.  Conferences are coming up in February so be looking for a sign up sheet within the next few weeks.

In Math the students are finishing up multiplying fractions, finding the volume of a 3-D shape, and also reviewing all 2nd 9-weeks material.

In Science the students are finishing up Astronomy by learning about the cause of Earth's seasons, the sun compared to the Earth, constellations, and reviewing all Astronomy concepts.

In Social Studies the students are learning about early explorers and their influence on the Western Hemisphere as we know it today.
