December Update:

Wow, December already!

What's Going On In Class?:
Math: Multiplication of decimals from now until about December 8th and multiplication of fractions from about the 9th-18.

Reading: Still practicing making & supporting inferences as well as identifying & supporting character traits, settings, and main events in a fiction text.  We will also be comparing & contrasting these story elements among 2 or more texts.

Writing: Finishing personal narratives including the peer editing process and possibly a short astronomy research essay.
**Don't forget you child can access ALL of his/her writings by logging into Google!

Science: Astronomy, focusing on the rotation vs. the revolution of Earth (ask you child about our square dance), the fact that the sun is a star it just appears bigger because it's the closest star to Earth, and the difference between the inner planets and outer planets.

Social Studies: Latitude vs. Longitude and early explorers' impact on the Western Hemisphere.

Other Info:
The students will take the Winter Benchmark of the MAP Assessment in both Reading and Math before Winter Break.  

Mrs. Lonsinger as well as Mrs. Massie, Mrs. Nothstine, and Mrs. Henrick will be in Columbus on Wednesday, December 9th at an OLAC (Ohio Leadership Advisory Council) to present on our Teacher Based Team to other teachers, administrators, and OLAC members.

First Week of November!

Wow this year is flying!
This week we are finishing up 1st nine weeks content including symbiosis in Life Science, adding and subtracting Mixed numbers in Math, and Native American tribe reports and reflecting about the cultural regions in Social Studies.

Where are we heading next?
2nd nine weeks topics: 
-Reading=Fiction text, inferences, comparing/contrasting story elements, and point of view.
-Writing=Narratives & possibly a small research report about the planets/space
-Math=Multiplication: first of whole #s, then decimals, then fractions
-Science=Earth & Space
-Social Studies=Explorers & types of government

What else is going on this week?
-Look for a parent-teacher conference paper coming home!  These will be November 12 & 17.
-The grading window closes for teachers Tuesday night, so look for our NEW progress reports to come home by Friday!
-I am in Columbus on Thursday and Friday with some administrators and reps from each building for a training.
